PRAIRIE CHICKEN Visitor Center

Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to its new visitor center, of course! Located about 60 miles west of Houston, this Wildlife Refuge is home to one of the largest groups of the endangered Attwater Prairie Chicken still remaining. Here, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the native coastal prairie landscape and all of the creatures and critters who inhabit it. Influenced by the surrounding historic South Texas vernacular, the new visitor center facility features both indoor and outdoor exhibits, as well as office space and lab support for the refuge staff. The project will also provide covered parking for the staff and features renovations of the existing maintenance facilities. We’re excited to play a small role in saving the prairie chickens!
